Roger Says..

I first came across Steven Shaw's through his book “The Art of Swimming” when doing research for my own book "The Owners Guide to the Body", which was published in 1999.  Later, Steve and I had a mutual client and we got to know each other and traded sessions.  My own swimming improved so much after lessons in the Shaw Method that I decided to do his diploma training in 2006, mostly for my own interest. Later I realised how useful it would be for my clients.

It was my own backache that got me to try Hellerwork in 1982. It was so good that I travelled to California to do the 1,250 hours professional training with Joseph Heller and became one of the first 50 practitioners trained in this method. Since 1983 I have developed a very successful practice in London and probably done more than 25,000 sessions. Hellerwork is a integrative hands-on soft tissue therapy for improving the underlying structure and posture and use of the body and works well with the Alexander Technique.

I love introducing the Shaw Method of swimming to my existing clients and others, and helping people to find excellence with ease in the water. I feel that the water is an ideal environment to put the Hellerwork & Alexander principles into action. It is also great way to develop core stability, range of movement (flexibility), and endurance as well as mindfulness, coordination, balance & relaxation.

I am a 1976 graduate of Keele University, Staffordshire with a degree in Economics, History and Politics.  I worked as a Shipbroker on the Baltic Exchange, London and also participated in the World Frisbee Championships in California before that backache led me to my vocation.  I particularly enjoy teaching butterfly, having learnt it myself at the ripe old age of 51, and every time I go swimming I am continuing to learn more and improve my strokes.
